Antique 1800s Fried Aug Glass II? Violin Manner Of Stradivarius.
Here is a nice looking antique violin that I believe dates back to the late 1800s. Label inside reads Avon Fried. Aug. Glass Verfetigt nach Antonius Stradivarius Fils Cremona 1737. Violin has characteristics that suggest it is from the workshop of F A Glass II, narrow button neck, fine narrow center purfling, crisply cut sound holes, nicely shaped scroll and good quality wood selection. Back measures approx 14 1/8” in length and bouts are approx 8 1/4” and 6 5/8”. Violin comes in an old hard shell case. Overall condition is very good for its age, I see no cracks and I saw one very small spot of separation of the back from the side up by the neck, otherwise it is very solid. Instrument is a bit dirty, primarily the top but I think it would clean up fine. Nice old instrument fresh out of an estate.
